I'm reshooting a lot of my California material for the California Index. Thought I would post a few of the more interesting shots. Much of the material has been posted a while back for various reasons, so not much new. Just better photography (hopefully.) Turtle Mountain Sagenite Arrowhead Lane (across I-40 from Afton Canyon Dendritic Nodule: Plume (best I've ever found - and I can't find the source as this was found as float...) Southern Cady Mtn Plume (yeah...tiny sample...but colorful) Northern Cady Plume (Some of this went out with the CR*P rock box that I offered up a few days ago...) Northern Cady Sagenite Nodule I hope you don't mind some random rock eye candy. Thanks for looking. Back to chores. Lowell

Wow, what a coincidence! I was digging through some of the vast assortment of rocks on my patio this afternoon, and fired up the saw. I just cut a nodule that looks like your second one - sagenite! Don't know where it's from, however, as it was picked up at an estate sale in San Diego. The man was an active collector, probably started in the 1950's (or earlier) and had materials from all over the southwest. It could very well be from the Turtle Mountains, it looks very similar. I'll post a pic tomorrow.
Thanks for the eye candy, Lowell! Jean

Love rock eye-candy! Beautiful specimens. I've lived in California my entire life and have never found anything like your samples! Thanks for posting.

Cool specimens Lowell! That south Cadys plume is excellent. I've got some very similar material that came from the basin Road site in the north Cadys. Had a friend who found the in situ outcrop ( he carried out some samples) but when we went on a trip to mine some, he couldn't find it again and we spent days teasing him about it. His name is Jim and we named it the " Lost Jim ( gem) Mine" *L* The float boulders I have run from maybe 30 to 90 pounds or so but he said that's tiny compared to the in situ deposit which was several feet thick in some areas of the vein. I sure would like to have seen that deposit! I'll have to post pics sometime of the other two Basin Road vein pieces that I've never been able to find more of. Somewhere out there there is still a real treasure to be found.....Mel

Okay, I finally got around to getting some pics taken. Lowell, do you think this could be Turtle Mountain sagenite? The outside of the nodule (already cut into three pieces) A couple of the slabettes: Picked these up (already tumbled) for $1 each at another local club's show in March: Now, I have another question - I realize rutilated quartz has rutile in it, while other stones may have sagenite in them. But how do you tell the difference by looking at them? Or do you have to know where it's from, and make an educated guess? Thanks for sharing your expertise! Jean
