A friend of mine just went to a rock/yard sale today, and brought home an "old R&M 10” trim and slab saw". I went online to look for info, and could not find any such brand of rock saw. Is this a real oldie? He says the motor runs, but thinks it might need some work.
Anybody have info - a new name, perhaps - or link to more info? Photos? Thanks! Jean

I have an R&M 18" slab saw I picked up at an auction a couple of months ago. If I remember right it was made in Portland, OR. It has a plate on it with some information but I would have to go out and look again. Looks pretty well made.

Thanks for the reply, Tony. I heard back from my friend, and he mentioned that he did a quick web search for the saw and got "just one hit about someone talking about an old saw they saw at a rock shop in 1989. I think R&M is long out of business."
He said the person he bought the saw from "isn’t dead. He is 97 and still there." He asked the lady helping them sell stuff if there was a manual for the saw and "she laughed (in a nice way)." He said he "would not be surprised if this saw is about our age."
He was concerned about the automatic power feed system, and would like it repaired or replaced. After checking into it, he actually had some good news; "I pulled the transmission off of the saw, opened it up and after a few shots of WD40 I could move all the gears…I got the drive screw to rotate by hand and the shuttle now moves down the rods. The drive screw looks a bit bowed and the do-dad (technical term) holding the shuttle to the drive screw is not engaging the threads but it may just be rust. Who knows, maybe it just needs some elbow grease and a new blade."
Anyway, he only paid $30 for the saw, and it now sounds like it may not need too much work after all. I'll still keep my ears open for any info. Jean
