I'm finally going to double the amount of equipment I'm running and buy a vibratory tumbler to go with my QT-12 rotary. I've pretty much decided to buy a new Gy-Roc tumbler (Model 'A') for a couple reasons: - Highly recommended on this web-site (durable) - Vibratory (fast) - Option to add a flat lap to the top while tumbling (versatile) - Extra bowls for the different stages are cheap.
I do have a couple questions for anyone that can help: - The Kingsley North catalog lists the model 'A' for $315. Has anyone seen it cheaper elsewhere? - What do you all think about the stackable lap? Good idea because it saves valuable workbench space? Or bad idea because it isn't built for that and you're better off with a stand-alone? - Any words of advice in general?
Thanks for your help.

I think I have seen it as low as $298, but that was a sale at Kingsley. If you can sang a used one for undr $150, I think it is worth the wait. has not been an Model A on ebay for a while though.
I like the lap plate. Standalone vib-laps are $150+ used. The cheapest new one is the $245 Covington. I think youcan build a colar to sit on the bowl and then affix a use lap pan on top, but you will not save too much because the new pan is prices pretty low.
FYI, the drive pulley is a double (2-size), so you can run the unit at vigorous or gentle.
Even with the rubber feet, the unit walks a bit on my painted basement floor. Ming not walk on rougher concrete. I made a little wood frame that I glued onto a cement paving stone. This base has been working well.
Welcome to the vibe world!

Thanks for the advice, Dan. Yeah, it does look like a walker. I was planning on using some 1" x 1" wood srewed into the workbench to 'corral' it.

Here is a pic of the base I made. There is just enough room on a standard paver for a 1x2 frame. FYI, there is some spatter if you take off the lid while it is running.

Thanks for a pic of your set up. The legs on that thing sure look strange. I wonder why they made them come up so high. Why not just high enough to keep the motor off the ground? Maybe just easier to carry.
Looks like you have lots of plugs in the wall...
