The better diamond compounds use a silicon based fluid so yes, silicon spray should be safe on opals. You only need to mist the pad and mist occasionally when pad feels too dry.

Thank you, Matt! Have it bookmarked!! Do you make candles? Thanks, John for letting me know the spray is okay to use with opal. One more question  : Can the spray be used on a Graves spool??

I did a few years back but just donated all my supplies to make room for the rock bed laying in my work room. I'm insanely busy with a bingo fundraiser till Saturday and have neglected my work room for weeks now. I so badly want starts up the saw for the first time. Instead I've been living vicariously through RTH member posts lol

Yes on the Graves spool polisher. Do they recommend their extender? If so it is a liquid form, non-spray silicon.

Matt, did you make any candle holders made of cool gemmo materials?? Sure hope you consider making some if you purchase supplies again for candle-making. Hi, and thanks, John, just wondered if it would be okay to spray the silicon spray on the Graves spool attachment (for CabMate); sure don't won't to ruin it. Thanks for everyone's suggestions and help. I really appreciate it!!

I am a cowboy horseman, u know leather bridles n saddles. Mineral oil causes lesther to sweel n stretch n get weak due to thr fibers separating. Shudder to think of it under the spinning force n pressure of a cab but I could be wrong. Lets see definitely was wrong this morning on toasting the bread, LOL black buttered toast, u cook u est it in my house!!!!

The best source of silicone extender for use on leather polishing belts, or pads is food grade silicone spray obtained for any commercial kitchen supply. A large spray can costs less that one we can of '''lapidary diamond extender''''. Since I started making the belts a couple of years back, we have used at least half a carot of diamond on each belt.
To answer the question about polishing opal on diamond/leather, the simple answer is yes, BUT use a light hand, and let the stone cool often.
