Well I made several trips this summer to Wyoming and some of the collected stuff is coming out of the tumbler today. First up, a bunch of agates, some jasper and chert from the Marshall area: Manganese forms some cool dendrites: And the jasper has a lot of dendrites as well: Some banded chert: My last trip out I collected a bunch of Turritella Agate, here are 3 pendants I cut from that material: There is a lot more in the batch but that's all I have time to post for now.

that triangle looks like you have a (or two) rattlesnake rattle(s) embedded in it! Nice!
If you ever go again, earn some of your gas money back by selling me some spheremaking rough!

Nice batch of rocks John. That turritella looks especially nice. You really highlighted the snail cross sections well in that center stone.

Thanks all.
Cathy I do both. Rotaries beat up the rough, I preform cabs, and everything ends up in the vibe.

You're right. Burnishing after the final polish makes the rocks pop! Great shine.

Good luck Jeff, the Turritella will need to be really solid, the vibe likes to remove anything remotely soft or unstable.
I've done Turritella in the past that was less solid and it came out pretty rough.
For what it's worth, I shape cabs on a 120 Galaxy Diamond wheel and go straight into the vibe along with all the other already shaped (meaning done with stage 1) tumbled stones and run 120/220 SiC for 2 days, then 2 more days with fresh 120/220 SiC, then 2 days of 500AO, then 4-5 days of polish. Randy has a thread pinned on the tumbling thread about vibratory tumbling.
I don't know how much more of this I'll be doing, I have a Genie now and will probably convert the machine with the diamond wheel into a pure polish machine, expandos and leather instead of hard diamond, and just use the vibe for straight tumbling.
