The Washington Mills(large manufacturer of AO and S.Carbide) salesman said that heat breaks down silicon carbide at a much higher rate.Ironically mine are in my greenhouse and he said that it too hot in there. He said the metal tumbling industry sees a lot of heat problems Attachments:

LOL Geoff. I think the only real issue would be the motors heating up. I have a hard time believing that the SiC in a tumbler is going to get hot enough to affect it.
Nice greenhouse!

The finishing tumblers run slow and never get hot.But this summer the 45 pound barrels that run at 80 RPM for coarse grind got very hot.And they were building a lot of gas pressure too.

I also don't think the temperatures reached in a tumbler would affect the SiC - especially considering the temps it is made at. My worry is the motor heating up the barrel so that gases build up. I train a fan on it to keep the right hand barrel cool.

When you fill your barrels use hot water and you shouldn't has as much of a problem with gas build up.. that's what I do and I have my QT66 running in my carport 24/7, I also went out and bought a little 4inch fan that blows on the motor because it always runs hot during the day.

I guess the hot water cools and sets up a vacumn-novel idea.I know how to blow up a tumbler barrel-tumble concrete.I would pour agate chips, glass ceramics whatever in high strength concrete, then saw and break up for tumbler.Called it vomit jewelry and it was one of best sellers.Check it out Mario Attachments:

Yet another.Ended up using pvc barrel with a pvc threaded cap.Had to grease threads well to get it apart.Probably had 30- 40 psi in it.Totally dangerous to remove cap.Have a chipped tooth:> Attachments:
