Just saw on eBay an 18" Highland Park Saw in California at a good price. It is with eBay seller Zippyrocks. Here's a link: tinyurl.com/8hnx4kdI do not know this seller and haven't done business with them but they do have a 100% feedback rating.

I don't know why the good deals are always so far away from me

I have bought from zippy once... was awhile ago, everything went smoothly, no problems that I recall.
since it's a local pickup item.. it makes it even easier... you can probably have him start it up for you.. no oil is no problem as long as your not cutting anything.
Give it a glance for straight spinning blade and a good listen for bearing noises and if it sounds good ... go for it if it's what you want!!
just my :2cents:

I think it's one of those immutable laws of the universe, like the bread always landing with the butter side down.
There's some corollaries as well: 1. The further away it is, the better the deal will be 2. If somehow you arrange to travel 50-500-5000 miles and actually manage to grab the deal, the next week a newer one will turn up for less money in the next town over 3. Even if you manage to overcome/outwit #1 & #2, you will get one of the things home and it will either not fit through the door, have a power requirement that you can't arrange, or need anti-gravity casters to keep it from falling though the floorboards. Or something. 4. If all the above is somehow overcome, when you go to use it, someone will politely inform you about some neighborhood association rule or zoning restriction that restricts mineral oil use on your street for some unfathomable reason. Or another something.
The universe seems to have an impressive will to exercise its sense of humor.

LOL - Excellent Rx, Quail! I'm sure after such an effective attitude adjustment, I'll be able to take heart with the observation that the glass is always 100% full - it's just some of it's water and some of it's air PS. I've done some ebay transactions with Zippy in the last few months - no issues and his material is always top notch. Would not hesitate to buy from him again. --Jack

Zippyrocks ounds like a good dealer. I hope one of our West Coast members who is looking for an 18" saw gets the deal! 18" HPs at that price, and that aren't rust buckets don't come along often.

And it's sold. Didn't think the listing would stay up long at that price.

I have that exact same saw in 16", love it, same rollers and bearing design, even got the original paint like that one. It's one of the older highland parks before they went to the other type of slide. I think I put it around 1950 after a conversation with a guy at diamond pacific. Easily my favorite piece of lapidary equipment.
