It is hard to understand the damage this hurricane has caused. It will take a lot of time to repair all the damamge and many may never recover.
The amount of water the storm surge poured into the tunnels and streets is beyond comprehension.
When you see pictures of the little beach houses in Seaside inundated with water and sand, remember those are hardly the mcmansions of the rich and famous. They are small bungalows that the unpretentious have scraped together their life savings for.
Power has been out in many parts of NJ and NY for days. My sister in Jersey City got her power back on wednesday, My Mom on Thursday. My brother in Bayonne finally called me last night around 9PM after his power finally came back on. My sister in Waldwick is still out.
I dont know if it is still out but the lower half of Manhatten (NYC) lost power for days. The stock exchange was closed for two days..which I imagine is unprecidented.
It is sometimes hard to live in the NY/NJ Metropolitan area. It is dirty and grimy with a lot of people in a very small area; when you cannot get to work it is really unbearable.
In this crisis you see a Republican Icon Governor Chris Christie and a Democratic President, joining hands and working together; acting like responsible adults, not blaming each other but working together to make things better. I think this is a wake up call and message to the country. We are all in this together. We need to work together to build a better life. Blame does not solve problems.
