Okay, I don't think I've asked this question in a while. But as a good all-around/any-type-of-rock polish what is the best? Kingsley North says tin oxide. $16 per pound. What say you all?

I like tin oxide but it's pricey and needs a careful prepolish.

I've had good luck with optical grade tin oxide on some of the harder to polish or mixed hardness stones and for years used cerium oxide for the final polish when tumbling quartz gems. Now though, I'm a Rock shed aluminum oxide convert. I've never gotten a finish as good as I'm getting with their AO and it's way way cheaper. I just took out some preforms of slabbed Brazilian Agate done with the AO and they're almost too shiney. Shoot, they reflect so well you can't see the stones pattern from some angles! ...mel

I actually use a combination of 1 TBSP Cerium Oxide, from Ebersoles and 1 TBSP Aluminum Oxide, from The Rock Shed. The link is www.therockshed.comTami

I agree with the A.O. from the Rock Shed, but primarily I use M-5 polish from Johnson Lapidary. Their polish has worked extremely well for me.
