Sorry to hear it Shotgunner, you will be missed. RocknCritter, that's very true although I don't know if there are any tenderfoots among us who don't like to get wet. I've got the cookies made so I'm showing up rain or shine, I have a handy dandy raincoat.

I am a tenderfoot so I will also miss the BBQ. With the flu running rampid in my area and a couple of close calls, I think I had better stay out of the cold rain. I will miss everyone and hope ya'll have a great time. I will still provide the chips, sending them with Diane.

We can hope it will rain itself out today and tonight we will get a break, heck we got one yesterday so stranger things have happened. I'm still planning on coming.

Well, it sounds like everyone enjoyed the past few days. Getting to meet and party. Drocknut thought a little rain scared my crew. Not true. Really. I know we weren't there. I wanted to be in attendance, but something really awful happened to me. Long story short, I was kidnapped by a rockhound from NV. I was forced, forced I tell you,to go to rainbow mtn and hunt wonderstone for five days. It was the most terrible time of my life. Really. I am not home yet! The rockhound is making me travel to Lavic tonight and I have to hunt again in the morning. She keeps yelling at me....JASPER. I don't know if I can handle anymore. I will try to communicate soon, if I am still alive. Hopefully I will be able to post some picts.

Cheri, well you missed out big time. Great food, great conversation, and of course rocks. I had a great time and the weather cleared out so we didn't get wet. It did start sprinkling when I was leaving after 9pm but otherwise it was nice spending time with friends near "Lake Quartzsite"..lol. I got pictures and I'll try to post them later. Thanks to everyone who braved the chill and wet to come to the BBQ. A big thank you to Tony for hosting the event and cooking up some yummy burgers and wieners...ummm I mean hot dogs...lol.

Just curious... Did the weather cooperate and allow a field trip to Dixie Peak on Sunday? While we were packing up to come home on Sunday morning, it seemed like it was trying to clear up, with the sun breaking through the clouds. Had a pretty good headwind coming back up the mountains on the way home, and the fog (or was it that we were in the low clouds?) got a little thick hitting the summits. I took a few pictures while out in Quartzsite (but none of the BBQ ), and I've still got to take some photos of the rock haul. Will get them posted sometime today. I have to say, that all of you that missed the field trips and the BBQ missed out big time! We're going to be talking about this for a while, just rubbing it in! I'd like to thank Diane (drocknut) and Sheri (rockhobbit) for planning the Brenda trip and breakfast, Tony (catmandewe) for hosting the BBQ, and Susan (bluesky) for volunteering (coerced? Not much!) to take the reins and organizing the BBQ. Susan, was Quartzsite everything you had imagined and more? It was so much fun to spend the day picking rocks with you all behind Brenda, only wish the weather could have been a little less iffy. It was great to meet you all, and I am looking forward to next year's get-together. Jean

No Jean, Dixie Peak Sunday didn't happen. It was way too wet to go out there.

Gee, Diane, that's too bad. I'm sure a lot of people were looking forward to it. Where we were camped at, even a day after it had rained, the ground had turned to mush. Even a 4WD with big aggressive tires would get mired in no time! Well, there's always next year, and hopefully the weather will cooperate a little better! Jean

Actually there wasn't a lot of interest in the trip, mostly I think because of the rain. There's always hope for next year for sure.

Hey, Diane, did the avocados ripen up yet? Let me know how you liked them! (For those of you that weren't at the BBQ, I was unable to make the promised guacamole because my avocados did not ripen in two weeks! Must've been the cold temps before we left home, and also the first few days we were in Quartzsite. I put the avos on a table at the BBQ for members to take.)
I had intended to pick some more before we went to Quartzsite, so that they'd be ripe by SuperBowl Sunday. Oops, forgot to do that... Picked some yesterday, put them in a brown paper bag with some apples (they give off ethylene gas, so help ripen any fruit quicker). I read that it helps to put the bag on a sunny counter, but I don't get sun into my kitchen. Maybe I'll put them outside during the day, and bring them in at night. Pulling the stems out also seems to hasten ripening. Jean

Yes, my mom made some guacamole yesterday and it was wonderful. I'm sure yours would have tasted wonderful too, had I gotten to taste it ;-) I've still got two more to ripen but might try the paper bag thing. Hope yours ripen in time for Super Bowl Sunday. Thanks again for the lemons and avocados. Those lemons actually taste like lemons and boy are they strong...lol.
