I returned from a great rock hounding trip yesterday evening and waiting for me in the mail box was a belt for my Thumler model B! Woohoo.. ready to start! Today I got my rough all ready to go.. cleaned and sorted 8 lbs 4 oz for the "Maiden Voyage". It's a mix of chevron amythesist and sodalite I bought off ebay, plus maricopa green quartz/jasper and assorted pieces I've collected. First picture attempt.. hope this works! This brought me to about 60% capacity of the barrel, to which I added filtered water to just below the top layer of rocks, and then 1 lb 2 oz of 60/90. I don't know if 'filtered' water matters or not, but I just decided to keep it more pure as our tap is really hard. My first load is under way! I'm going to check in 4 or 5 days as I'm concerned my sodalite might get worked down to quickly and vanish! I'll keep y'all updated

Very Cool!! Best of luck. Don't forget about that sodalite because it does go fast. You ammys might fracture, so watch those. This should be a great batch. Good Luck!! Tonja

That's a beautiful selection you have going ! Let us know how it goes. I just loaded up my brand new QT12 plus all 4 of my 3lbers, so I have 24lbs of rock tumbling happily around in stage one right now

Best of luck. The sodalite will work fast, and some of the amathyest will work slow. Get some more rough or pellets and as you grind down you can top off. WHen you take out and set aside the sodalite you can top off. WHen you pull out some of the jasper (a bit later) you can top off. Eventually when you hav eenough pulled out to fill the barrel for a medium grind, set aside whatever is still in rough grind, and move the batch to medium.
When you start the next new batch, you can use the partly ground stuff or keep it in reserve to top off that barrel as it grinds down.
Sadly, it is not that often that you can move all the rocks along at the same time - at least not if you want each rock at its best.

Good-Luck on your first batch. Listen to the advice...I've never tumbled Amethyst or Sodalite, but sounds like you've already got some tips. It sure is a nice colorful selection. Keep us posted. Steve
