Kinda looks like a thick drop of honey to me lol. I cut this cab last night. My daughter's BF was over, and he's not allowed anywhere but the living room or kitchen area :nono: . They were watching a movie, so I went outside (garage is right off the kitchen - 30' away ) This is a nice high dome cab, I'm hoping to make a ring for. It's about 1/2" thick at the highest point. It's 7/8" high and 5/8" wide. Here's the lil beauty back-lit. Finished the back this afternoon. I didn't take the time to set up the heater & it was f'n cold out there! Back got chipped cleaning up the edge. It was scraping ice off the lap. Here's one to show how cold it was out there. Cold enough to freeze the water on my lap before it was slung off! Apparently some made it off the plate - it froze to the bucket. I wanna move to Arizona - then I can ride the bike & pick rocks all year long! Thanks for looking! Nate

My wife is from Wausau, Wisconsin. I just showed her your pictures of the icicle cabbing lap and asked here if it made her homesick? ....it didn't!

Thanks everyone. I have an idea how to enclose a small area to heat easier. Just gotta find the time and motivation to get working on it lol.

Man, that makes me cold just looking at it. The icicles, I mean, not the yummy cab.

That is one yummy cab. It does look like a drop of honey. Can't wait to see it as a ring. By the way, brrrrrrrr. My sister lives in Wisconsin and I was so tempted to call her and rub in the record high temps here but I was nice. Ya I know, how unlike me...lol.

Cab is very pretty. Looks almost like amber. The photos of the ice on your flat lap are beautiful, but I draw the line at about 65 degrees F. Hard to work with frozen fingers.

That is a sweet cab! I've been doing some Montana lately and I'm enjoying it a lot. Nate, my boy, you and I work the same way, it seems, lol. My set up is at the opening of a lean to shed, and in winter, I'm out there using super hot water in the drip bucket, and with a propane shop heater blowing on me. The trouble with the heater is it sucks your breath away if you aim it on you, so I have to figure out a way to bounce the heat so it gets to me. I'm been out there working while it was snowing, but I can't say I've had icicles forming on me yet. I'm giving you the toughness edge, lol. Tony

Tony, I think you've got me beat if you've been cabbing out while it's snowing. I should've set the heater up. The extra 5 minutes would have save the back of the cab from looking like that. Oh well, live and learn. Nate

Lol, icicles beat snow hands down, every time In winter I usually cab at mid day, when the sun is on me, and it helps a lot if there is no wind. I think an electric space heater would be better to use, but having it near me while water is splashing all around, seems like asking for trouble. To bad grinding is so messy, as it seems like it would be better done indoors. Oh, well, I'm in the south, so it isn't cold all the time down here The biggest thing to me is using the hot water. I have to stop when my hands go numb. I've ground things down way to far because I couldn't feel it happening, and I'm talking about parts of me, not rocks, lol. T
