So, recently, the wife and I were out exploring and came across a great spot for surface collecting fire agates, jasper, and regular agates not too far from Phoenix. We wrote up a short trip report at our blog if you are interested. www.earthnstuff.com/2013/01/fire-agate-trip.htmlAbout 1/4 of this material had visible fire, and I would bet a decent amount of the rest will show it as well after some tumbling. Chalcedony Close Up by Earth n Stuff, on Flickr This is what the ground in this area looks like. Ground 2 by Earth n Stuff, on Flickr You will NEED a high clearance vehicle but not necessarily a 4 wheel drive. This is a great site for those who can no longer make the difficult or long hikes. The ground is mostly flat in the collecting area and oddly soft(Seriously, my feet never got tired, just my neck, hehe) From I10 west of Phoenix take Wintersburg Road south past the Palo Verde Nuclear facility, go west on Elliot. Elliot will eventually continue past a curve as a dirt road(still going west), which is where the high clearance part comes in. About 8.5 (corrected thanks to foxtail for pointing out my error!) miles past the turn onto Elliot you should come to a place where the road forks(there are a few forks but you will know that you are where you should be if both forks end up in deep sand washes within 100 yards). The flood plain from the aforementioned wash is littered with material. For scale, the white one in the back is a little bigger than a tennis ball. I tried to trace your directions online and in the gazeteer, but the road you name ends way before the spot.

Ya know foxtail, i double checked my numbers and you are correct! I must included our mileage on Wintersburg road. Sry. So according to the Map it is actually 8.5 is miles past the Wintersburg/Elliot intersection. Copy and paste this into the address bar. Should take you to the spot. maps.google.com/maps?q=33.341553,-113.021979&num=1&t=h&vpsrc=0&hl=en&ie=UTF8&z=16&iwloc=A Thanks for calling me out on this.

In your bottom pic what is the red and blue banded rock in the top right? And is the blue right on top of it Chert? What about the dark red in the bottom left? Sorry I am still pretty new to the hobby and have similar finds to this from the Superior area I would really like some better ID on.

custommike: They both seem to be chips of agate, both are translucent and blue in the right light. Both are also in the tumbler.
