Our 9-year-old granddaughter came to visit with us a couple of weekends ago. She loves rocks and minerals, and the cabbing machine. About a year ago, she cabbed her first cab, a Missouri Lace Agate, and it was a very nice cab. Here's her 2nd cab that she cut from the parcel of Lightning Ridge Opal. For Christmas, we got her some gemstones that she had to pan to find, a wish pearl, some peacock ore, obsidian, fossils, a meteorite, and the boxed set of CS Lewis' Narnia. Here she is panning for gems in our kitchen, lol.

Beautiful cab, what a high dome she put on it! Congratulations to your granddaughter and to you for bringing her into this beautiful hobby.

I have enjoyed having most all of our grandkids do cabs. They learn a whole new appreciation of jewelry. Congrats on teaching your grandaughter and a mighty fine job.

What everyone else said. And now I can show my grand daughter the photos so she can see there is nothing to be afraid of. Thanks for posting that. Jim

You must be very proud of her on the great job she did of learning your skills, I don't think I am going to get grandkids even though we have 4 children between us, the oldest 32 and the youngest 27 :<( none seem inclined. great to see the master class can be passed on.

Awww.... how cool is that!? I'm sure she had a blast and a really good time with her grand parents building not only memories but hopefully a life long hobby, too.

Love to see kids in the hobby. Based upon your location, I was surprised her first rock was not a nice rose quartz cab. Maybe it was since this wasn't her first.
