First off yall dont start enough new threads!!!! Due to a lot of folks sending me stuff I have several slabbetes of montana. A couple are either preforms or just ended ui p the right size and they have this black inky ribbon twirling inside surronded by a semi clear orange brownish ribbon encircling the black. Way cool, the redt is clear with a few dots. Should the back be polished to make pendsnts or will that make them lose the depth? Or what? I really wsnt to do these right the first try.

I polish the backs of all of my cabs. the only reason I would not polish the back might be if I knew it was going to be used in a fashion where you couldn't see the back.

IMHO, if you polish the backs, it should make the pattern inside stand out more. But!, It also depends on the color of clothing that it is resting on. If you back it with something then it would probably always show the same. Got a picture of the one you're talking about?

Polish the back. The light diffuses of unpolished backs. sometimes if the color is just right and the material thin/clear enough, you get added illusions of depth and color-play when the back acts as a mirror and light is send back to the front. Does not happen often, but would be sad to miss even only one once in a while (I just had a Turkish Needle Dentrite where the effect turned up, and I'm soo glad I did the back).

I agree, polish the back for better light transmission and depth, especially with translucent material like Montana agate

I polish the backs of all my cabs, especially on the translucent ones. This makes the patterns more detailed.
