I'm just curious... I found this quartz (yes?) crystal while digging a few weeks ago. What do you think about it - is it worth anything and I don't mean monetarily? - I don't care about that - I'm wondering how rare it is or is it common and should be tossed out in the garden. What would you do with it? How would you clean it to get out the deep-pocket dirt? I've had it soaking in vinegar for a week which cleaned it up a lot already. It's too pretty to cut up which is why I'm posting in this area of the forum. I almost cut the bottom off on my trim saw just to get it to sit flat on the mantle or something but upon inspecting the bottom it seems betroydal (sp?) and I couldn't bear to cut into it. For size perspective... it's a little over 2" high...

Looks like quartz crystals that have tumbled in a stream or river for several years. It looks like some moss or lichen is still in the deep spots. Try soaking it in bleach for a couple days, then scrub it with an old toothbrush. You may need to use a sewing needle to work some of it loose.
Is it worth anything ? I'd say yes because the crystal terminations can still be seen. It's a nice sized example of a water worn crystal grouping. If it's pleasing to you, it's worth keeping and displaying.

Thanks Don, that's good insight and makes sense because I found it in an old dry creek wall area. Maybe I will go ahead and cut the bottom just a little to get rid of the wobble.
