It was an exhausting weekend as we had our annual show at the Turlock Fairgrounds. I just got back from our show wrap up meeting and the results were outstanding. We had a total adult paid admissions of 4,736 and children (10 and under) of 3,398. At one time on Saturday the entire fairgrounds parking lot was full. Financially we did our best ever and we had 26 new member applications! We even had Niel Larson of "Sue" the T Rex fame as a dealer. Now I have 51 weeks to rest up before the next show! Bob

Wow, Bob, that's quite an accomplishment, congratulations. Of course, it's all made possible by the hard efforts of people such as yourself. It's good to know that there are some clubs out there that still "got it." You'll have to share your secrets for a successful club, enquiring minds want to know.
And, of course, we are all waiting for pictures. Hope you weren't so busy that you were able to snap at least a few? Jean

Unfortunately I was so busy I didn't get any photos nor did I get to do any shopping! We have a member that does a geology refresher for 5th graders just prior to their state testing and it raises the schools numbers significantly. She does this for many, many students in many schools. As a result we get the opportunity to distribute our show flyer in almost all of the local schools just prior to the show. She also promotes the club during her presentations. This year we distributed 75,000 flyers in the schools. We also have local TV stations come to the show and do interviews as well as radio spots on three stations that give away admission tickets to the show. Lots of advertizing. We mailed 8300 flyers to people who have come to our show in the past. We get their addresses from the door prize drawing tickets that they fill out. We have a local collector of dinosaur fossils who has a very extensive collection that he shows part of at the show. He does a dinosaur presentation both days that draws over 350 people at each presentation. We have lots of educational things for the kids to do at the show. As you can see we offer a lot to the attendees and it is an awful lot of work for the members. We have been supporting the local junior college for the last 40 years by providing a lot of their lapidary and jewelry making equipment as well as all of the maintenance and supplies for the classes. This is a significant source all year long for new members. We currently have 300 members not counting the new ones from the show. Bob
