lmao Diane!! Bill if you don`t want to crop the picture down you can just use the resize option. I normally size mine to about 1400x1000 pixels. It shows up in the forums as a thumbnail and can then be seen in a larger picture when clicked on. Like the one in this reply.

Hi Orrum
Just by cropping all the non necessary "stuff" out of that image you made the file go from 900 kB to 30kB. Huge difference and no loss of resolution. Resizing is another good option as others have said and that is not the same as cropping. When you crop an image you are "removing" all the unnecessary pixels. Resizing an image changes the actual number of pixels (width x height) either larger (not normal) or smaller, this make the file size smaller.
Resizing an image either larger ( for sure) or smaller ( I think) makes the original image have less quality. An algorithm compresses the image by removing pixels ( or adding if you make the image larger), this reduces the file size if you are making the image smaller. I would not be concerned about loosing any image quality, I would crop the image to remove non rock pixels and resize if necessary. Jspencers suggestion is great, his pic is very nice!
