Nearly 2 weeks ago on Sunday, the last of our little Israeli dogs passed away at home with us. He had heart failure nearly a year ago so we knew we were on borrowed time. He was a great little friend and we are all going to miss him so much! Brak (named by the kids after a cartoon name) was active up til the end when he suffered a heart attack and then got in his bed with us all near by and my husbands hand on him and passed away. I am glad he went this way. He hated car rides and the vets office. He was 14 1/2 Rest in peace little friend

I'm sorry Fran. You had a good long time with him though. It truly is like loosing a friend. I still grieve over my friend Oscar.

I am so sorry. I am a big animal guy and work for the last 12 years as an animal control officer. Well I understand how hard it is to loose a pet. When you are ready go to your local animal shelter and adopted a pet.

Thank you everyone! We still have two dogs. Maddie is a 9 year old Cockapoo that my son took in off the streets (we later found the abusive owner and they signed her over to us or faced the documented cruelty). We also took in a Tibetan Terrier named Wriggly from a breeder that was going to have him put down. He was aggressive and returned a few times. Don't know what got into us with him because he was horrible! We had to use some serious police dog training to see if he could be saved. He is much better now but still has ownership issues. He is out of his "dark places" most of the time now but it has taken some serious work! Even he was gentle with Brak, especially the last hour of his life. Kept going to him and gently touching noses and laying down nearby. They are only now getting back to normal after his passing.

Sincere condolences, Fran. Losing a friend of this sort is never easy. I also am one who believes in allowing a pet to pass at home.

I am so sorry to learn of the loss of Brak. On February 4th we to lost a wonderful friend. Our little Pug, Sebastien, unexpectedly passed away. He was only 5 years old. I know that there are not words, enough, to express what you and your family are going through at this time. However please understand that I know what you are feeling. Though Brak is now gone in the physical sense his spirit will always live on in the hearts of all that knew him.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my dog of 10 years about five years ago and just now got a new puppy. It's always hard. Glad he didn't have to go to the vet and was able to die at home in your loving arms.

So sorry for your loss, Fran. Brak had a good, long life, and died a good death, surrounded by those that loved him.
I will soon be losing my almost fifteen year old dog who has chronic renal failure. She has been fighting like a trooper after being diagnosed last Halloween, but we know that all we can do is love her and care for her until it comes time to make the dreaded decision. If she makes it to May 24, she'd be fifteen years old. Quite an accomplishment for a large dog.
It seems this forum counts many animal lovers among its members, and I'm sure we all feel your pain. Remember the good times with Brak. Jean

Thank you all! I believe we have all lost a pet and when they are good friends, it is sure hard to say goodbye! Jean, I know what you are going through. It is borrowed time but they are such friends! Fran

Thanks, Fran. We're just taking it one day at a time. She has her good days and her bad days. When the bad outnumber the good, then it is time. Jean
