Very cool cabs and you caught the depth really well!!! That's going to be a seriously nice set, Tela! Let me know what you come up with for wire.

NatureNut gave me a piece of bronzite that I have on my kitchen windowsill and enjoy daily. I hadn't thought of cabbing or tumbling it. Thanks for the inspiration. And thanks Jo for the specimen.

Interesting stuff! Your cabs bring out the best in it.

Is bronzite a form of marcasite? Awsome looking pieces.

I thik that you will find that the material is a mixture of Grunerite, quartz, and layered mica flakes, traces of hematite give it the metalic looking properties and also create the 3D effect, it is sold commercially as "Golden amphibolite" but is often mistaken for Bronzite, which is much duller in comparison.

Thanks for looking and commenting everyone. Bushcraft--- I had never heard of "Golden amphibolite" before. I googled and it does look remarkably similar. Also, I have had other bronzite which looked different. As you say it is duller and it is darker. You may be right. What gets me, though, is the guy I got it from is a very, very knowledgeable and reputable dealer. I would have thought that he knew better. I'll have to go and dig out my other slabs. Maybe he just mixed some up. Now I am very curious. Google (or, rather, Startpage) is my friend. Thank you for the information.

I know the guys that mine the amphibolite, (they sell inTucson and Quartzite every year) they tell me that very few people in the USA have heard of 'Golden amphibolite' but they do know about Bronzite, so that is what the material it is sold as.

I should have mentioned that my wife wire wraps this material using flamed copper wire, it matches perfectly.

Thanks for all the info. I went through my slabs and did find two more pieces of bronzite. These were actually the bronzite that I am more familiar with. Next to each other you can really tell the difference.

That is some beautiful material. I have some bronzite beads but never had any rough of cabs of it. Those will look awesome wrapped.

Thanks I was getting ready to wrap it in copper with a patina and decided to wait and get some bronze, which I have never used. This would be a good excuse to finally get some.
