Hi Fish, can you point me to Lavic Crossing area with a road name or something I can google map? I'm not sure I can join you guys but it sounds like fun and I'm tempted to try.

Dan can do better but I'll get you started. Look for tese coords on google earth. The Lavic Jasper field is here 34.720815N 116.317003W If you get there you will literally be walking/driving on jasper every step of the way. To get there look west of this site for Hector Rd. You kinda have to wend your way east and south from the Hector Rd exit of I-40. It is all easy peasy dirt roads. I may make a day trip of it.

I-40 East to Hector Road. Exit and turn right then left on the old Route 66. Follow Route 66 to just where it takes a 90 degree left turn to cross over the I-40. Turn right instead on the dirt road. You will see the Searchers camped on the flat right there. Actually you should see them long before you get there as it is all pretty flat there.

Thanks for the responses and please forgive all the questions but is the collecting going to be focused on the local jasper field or is there another location in the Cady Mountains that the group will be travelling to?
Are people typically camping Friday night as well and what is the financial arrangement on the campsite – pay in advance or get a permit etc.?

I really want to go. I even joined up with the Searchers. It's just that the hockey season gets in the way. One of these days . . . . . .

I suspect the camping is dry camping, park your truck on the desert floor and make it home. Have a few beers and water the creosote! That is, not formal pay/go camping. No permits or anything. Based on Dan's description it looks like they will hit various Cady Mtn spots. There is a lot there. Nobody here will be bothered by your questions. You are considering a very long drive soask away and come visit SoCal! Bring plenty of water. It's heating up. John, how hot is it getting?

Fish told us about this field trip when we met him at the estate sale on Saturday. I'd love to go, but - DANG - our club's one day tailgate show is on Saturday, and I've already committed. (Besides, it IS heating up!) Jean

Thanks Scott! that sounds perfect - desert camping, rocks and beer :-) I was digging into it where everyone is going because I work late on Friday and there's no way of making it down there until Saturday morning. Of course that would mean I'd have to leave at 3 in the morning to hit the camp before people left hahaha. I've attempted worse...

Hey Tommy;
Hit up Fish privately and share cell #'s. There is service out there! That way you can catch up if you make it later than expected.

Haha, yeah, and you can call AAA if your battery dies too! I wouldn't know about that of course, since my battery didn't die and my buddy did have jumper cables!! Right Larry? Did anybody go on this trip? I went on one Searchers field trip called "South Cady's" last fall, and it ended up just being 2 different locations at Lavic (moving around the rather large field, rather than parking at the location the book describes). I was hoping to go to some of the other Cady's locations though, and was pretty disappointed to go to Lavic for like my 5th time.

Sadly I wasn't able to make it...real life responsibilities caught up with me and spoiled my fun idea LOL.
