Funny, I used to only eat mustard on hamburgers too... now I'm not as picky. Isn't mustard and ketchup together what Thousand Island is??
We have Whataburgers in Florida too, so it's not just a Texas thing:P.

Not a Whataburger fan. My favorite fast food burgers are Culvers or Burger King. Whataburger here slathers their burgers with mustard if you don't stop them and I'm not a mustard on burgers fan.
What blows me away is how bad DQ is around here. When I first started rock hounding in Texas many years ago, DQ ruled. The DQ just over the border into New Mexico is very good. Been to four of them around here ( two in Kerrville, one in Fredericksburg and one down by Boerne) and they all totally suck. Dirty, stale buns, badly cooked food, ultra slow service etc. Someone really needs to figure out what's up with them these days.....Mel

I've never met a DQ I liked. Burger King sucks. Whataburger is OK. Grilled at home is best and it ain't a hamburger unless it has mustard. ;D

I'm with you Mel DQ ruled back in the 80's do not know what happened they closed most of them in Ohio back then. Now they are making a come back here they are just not the same any more. Mus-turd is for dogs only not meant for burgers at all. I will put our local Zip burger up as the best burger any where bar none its the best i have had any where and i have eaten burgers all over this country. I do like whataburger though to but i like BK the best of all fast food burgers. George

Never had a whataburger, but when we have burgers at home: I do mustard and jalepenos on the bottom, Sweet Baby Rays and bread and butter chips on top.

I love Whataburgers ! Even Hank Hill likes 'em. The Whataburgers in Pensacola Fla are good. I worked for a company once that made the salt packets for them. Had pancakes at one and they are pretty good. Was surprised that they were frozen and heated in a microwave. Been years since I have had one. I think the nearest one to Carrollton GA is Montogomery AL.

*L* Deer burgers, oh YUK! Since my dad was an avid hunter and a taxidermist, I never got real hamburger as a kid, only deer or bear burgers. Disgusting flavored hocky pucks *L* I actually think that's why I love beef hamburgers so much now. Got to say that the axis and blackbuck burgers here locally are right fine eating though....Mel

I hate deer meat Mel.But it is delicious when ground with beef fat.Or jerked. The wildlife mangagement likes us 'perimeter to Atlanta'farmers to harvest as many as we can.Driven by over population and more likely the insurance industry(we crash into deer constantly). Well, season is fall/winter when they eat acorns.I get em during summer when they eat my crop. The off season deer meat is much better since they eat greens instead of bitter nuts. Timber grows fast and cut land supports a lot of deer from sprouts growing quickly out of established cut stumps.Fat lazy cattle farm deer taste even sweeter. Deer south of Atlanta along the polluted Chattahoochee River grow to giant size.A tiny area that produces a large percentage of trophies. You are biologist-any guesses why(it has to do w/ammonium/phosphate rich fog).

James, No help from me there I'm afraid. My wildlife biology training was geared more towards marine and fresh water aquatics, birds and small animals. My AG work was in animal control, quarantine, nurseries, pest detection, pesticide use enforcement, environmental impact, weeds etc. Only worked a very little bit with deer, though I do it more here on the ranch. I know almost nothing about deer physiology but far as I know, usually large size has more to do with population density, genetics, and nutrition. We have about 1200 whitetail here on the ranch and due to the fact it's a game preserve and we don't shoot, they're all little bitty boogers compared to the blacktails we had on our California ranch....Mel

Our DQ here in town sucks with burgers! The DQ in the town our daughter live in down the road has great burgers.....(I still say if ya' can't cook, keep em' out of the kitchen!!!!) Even if its just flipping burgers!! We have an A&W down the road a peace, its good...MC's,we eat there once in awhile (Their new Habanero burger is great).. Burger King sucks, always has always will....We have Burgervilles in Oregon, they aren't to bad,but I've had better!!! The best places for burgers in my honest opinion is the Mom and Pop joints you see on the side of the roads on your travels.... If you want a great burger and no regrets, come on over to my house and I'll grill you a burger that will knock your socks off..No burger buns either,Kieser buns!!!Home made jalopeno slices,pickled..Habanero ketchup,homemade..Any kind of mustard you want, pickles, lettuce, most every kind of cheese you like.. I love to cook and grill!!!!! As for wild game on burger, you can't beat a great elk burger..as for deer,I cut my with 1/2 pork fat and 1/2 deer meat,oh man is that some good burger than! Don't like buffalo burgers either,to gamey..Had enough of buffalo meat to last me a life time..(My buddy had a buffalo ranch)..Have a buddy that has an elk ranch too.. Moose burger is great too..........Had Llama burger, but mixed it with beef and pork and made some kickass sausage with it...

That is the longest paragraph I have ever seen Fossilman type.Gotta be the food subject. LAOF
Good to see a pro mixing fat w/game meat.My urban buddies eat straight deer meat just to look macho. I eat it regular and want it to taste good.
Do you ever do jerky Micheal? I got the best recipe for jerky in the world.Marinate it with your marinate. Deep fry it for 3 minutes in 450 degree peanut oil.Let it drain overnite. Can jerk 2 hams in a couple of hours.Try that in a dryer!

Yes James,I do "jerkey" many different ways....Now I make up my own recipes for jerky sticks and smoke them.. Send me your reciped,I'll try them out.. As of now I'm trying different recipes for smoked salmon and trout..I smoked alot of fish while living in North Dakota, usually trout, northern pike and a few other types of sunfish...My opinion,I like smoked trout better than smoked salmon....( I like being the odd guy )LOL..... As for cooking and baking,I have been doing that for 51 years....Not bragging, but can outcook alot of women and men that I know.....Brothers can too..Dad was a Professional cook,Mom was an excellent cook,Grandma VanDyke taught me the old ways of cooking... Been doing wild game cooking and fixing for over 30+ years and got it down to a science,I shoot, gut, clean, skin, butcher and prepare all my wild game and fish.I don't allow another person to touch my eatings!LOL Simple as that... As for rockhounding, fossil hunting, woodworking,I can talk shop with cooking and baking just as much....OH YA'!!!!! LOL
