Very cool stuff! I fired my vibe back up this morning, trying to finish a batch of snowflake obsidian I started a while back. I went back a step because they started whiting on the edges. After this step I'm gonna add plastic pellets to see if that helps.

You know Randy, I had whitening on the edges of some of the Firefly Jasper for the second time. I'm thinking I must not be using enough plastic pellets in the fine grind stage as I've recently cut down and have never had that happen before. They were some of the more angular pieces though, so it may be a function of not having the stones rounded enough in the coarse grind too. I'm going to run them clear back to coarse and see if I can fix the problem. Have definitely had that problem with obsidian and had to use a ton of pellets and lots of smalls to cushion the load for good results....Mel

Nice batch, really neat material - I especially like the hornitos.
Randy and Mel, do you guys use plastic in the vibe tumblers, like the 500 and polish stages? I get frosting with glasses and obsidian and it makes me insane.
Thanks

John, I use plastic pellets in all stages after coarse grind. For obsidian, I use them in all stages, including coarse grind, and lots of them.....Mel

.other question Mel. Did you tumble the slabs and rough pieces together? I assume rotary couarse grind and then a vibe tumbler?

Orrum, Yep all together and as you've said, rotary for the rough grind, rest in the vibe, 3 days fine grind, five each for prepolish and polish, one day burnish in Dreft....Mel
