It's my birthday today and my wife said we could go to a rock shop about 45 minutes north of here! She's the best. My birthday doesn't come up on the RTH because I accidently put in the 29th not the 24th and I can't figure out how to change it.
Anyway, we visited the Hopland CA rockshop- a crusty but well loved shop. I had a chat with the guy and went into the rock yard (as some may know this shop has a rock yard where everything is covered by a layer of leaves and twigs) with a bucket. It was raining and I got soaked, dirty and smelly. I managed to bring good shoes and a pair of gloves this time which really helped.
I met a guy inside that went into the rock yard with me. Funny thing, this guy looked a lot like Ed (Stoner). I actually thought it was at first! The resemblence was there and he WAS in a rock shop. You do the math. Anyway, it turned out to be a cool guy named Jim who likes rocks and recommended a good swap meet. We chatted. He got some goodies too. He wife eventually came out to bring him back in- she looked familear, turns out she works with me! She likes rocks too which is cool.
I loaded up my bucket and once inside got some nice crysocolla and rutilated quartz. It was a fun time. My wife took me to dinner afterwards to a nice place. On the way back it started pouring rain. I mean POURING. The report said we had a 30% chance, but it was raining for most of the day and really coming down at times. We drove nice and slow over the winding freeway and made it back OK. Rain is nice normally, but driving in a downpour can be tough.
Here's what I came home with, 45 pounds of rocks. Lots of botswana agate, yellow and red brecciated type jasper(?), some green jasper, lots of Idon'tknowites, crysocolla, rutilated quartz, banded amethyst and what I hoped was Kinradite (wasn't- snowflake obsidian, but I like it so much anyway) . I'll take more photos after the rain cleans the rocks off.
It was a great birthday.
