Today I was thinking how lucky I am to live in such a rockhounding paradise, but as we all know, we can never have enough and there's always that "fantasy" find on the horizon. I've been able to find geodes, thundereggs, dino bone, coprolites, palm wood. But there's still so much I'd love to find.....fulgerites, meteorites, sharks teeth, arrowheads, Megladon tooth. Out of all of them though, I think I would put meteorite at the top of my wish list. What rock do you covet most? ?? Gaetz

A meteroite or an actual dinosaur bone, not sure which of the two would be the best. By dino bone, I mean one, where I'd know what it was when I saw it, like a mastodon tusk or a skull of something, not just a chunk. A meteorite would be cool as.....it's not from Earth........just either would be put me on cloud 9. Sandy

Well it just bugs the Hell out of me that I live so close to the area where the poppy jaspers come from and I can't just go out and collect them. Morgan Hill stuff is either built over or on State land and the Guadalupe is on county property and has a hefty fine if caught, and they do look for people. So to find a huge boulder of either type and be able to get it home would be great.

Hmmm. Got to agree with Ed on the Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper. Dino Bone has always been a fantasy and man do I wish they'd reopen the Dryhead deposits to collectors. That was a really fun dig! Also the two biggies for those who like fossils that polish, a complete cycad or a complete palm onion from the Mojave palm root areas. Oh, and a complete two week rockabout trip to the South Dakota badlands agate beds......mel

What's my fantasy? Okay, I'm stranded on a desert island, and I'm the only guy there among hundreds of hot babes, who all want to.... ...sorry, couldn't resist! -Don

Well my fantasy is not to find a certain stone, but to find a different Agate, Jasper, or any new stone in Michigan that has good color, and shines up really well, that is my quest this spring and summer. I mean something other than Lake Superior Agates, Granite, etc. Of course I wouldn't mind finding Superior Agates. Terry

Wow, I have so many fantasies. The top of the list I guess would be mamouth teeth, dino bone, coprolite................
I find an occassional arrow head, and that's a big thrill for me too.

I'll bite. My fantasy is to meet a handsome single 55-ish man who is as into rockhounding as I am, with a 20 inch slab saw, a Genie and enough money that I would never have to work again (so we could travel all over the world and collect beautiful rock...).
*sigh* :-/S

Hey John Sands is living my fantasy. An RV, slab saw, cab station, and a route that takeshime to prime rockhounding sites and to other RTH members like Kim. Can't beat that.

Yep... John's living it! I guess for me it would be finding something new or unusual. I recently found an agate nodule (almost like a thunder egg really) in a location where agates were not known to be.. The former president of the Austin Gem and Mineralogical society told me that there wasn't any to be found on the land I was hunting... lol... guess again! The nodule isn't all that pretty but it's encouraging to think there might be more... Dan

C'Mon Guys and Gals, you're killing me here........
I don't mind hearing about all your fantasies here but I want to know what that empty space on your mantle is reserved for. Put 'em all down, then decide what would be your most glorious find!!!!!!!

Ok then, a large glorious 8-10 lb chunk of Rocky butte (likely with cream to tan sky, and lots of green red hills) that was just too pretty as it was to cut or grind or slab or anything.

Lame? Heck no, that's sweet. I'd love to find some gold nuggets, especially at $600 per.

stefan: That's a neat one all right. I take my detector all over our ranch and find nothing but cartridge casings and horseshoes. Meanwhile my next door neighbor , who owns his own gold mine, finds a two ounce nugget on the roadside just up the road from his house. My goold findling luck sucks!
Dan: My wife and I were surprised to find some actual thundereggs on one of our Texas trips but the centers were small and pretty plain. Right on a roadside too but darned if I can remember exactly where we were as we were driving all over that trip *L*....mel
