Today I was digging through a box and found a couple interesting specimens that I have found while fishing and simultaneously hounding . Besides being a nice big specimen, the other side is interesting. A perfectly spherical imprint made while the seam agate was forming. The imprint seems to obviously be a stream eroded rock, and a sedimentary one evidently based on the remaining rind. So it seems that this seam agate apparently formed through an old stream bed. There has been some discussion of the last year about marks on the outside of agates, and this is another neat example. Earth geology is so huge it is boggling and wonderful. And as a bonus, another from the same stream:

Almost looks like an agatized hip bone, except it's too think. My wood is here. I'll slice next week.

I think I will leave it as a specimen.
And yes Scott, I think I will pawn it off as fossilized hip bone - Leakey's loose Lucy.

Nice! I have found many clearish agates with the same surface and embedded small rocks. Never considered stream beds. Great banding in that one.
