ya know that sea salt smell is interesting 40 years ago driving into San Diego the smell of the Ocean was a powerful fresh aroma! Really remarkable for this dry desert guy.
Do folks who live on the coast get use to it ?

Ed, funny you should ask. When you are here all the time, unless you are sitting right on the beach, with an offshore breeze, you really don't notice so much. So, yeah, you get used to it.
Several years ago, we went on vacation inland somewhere. Northeast, actually. We were gone for about a week, and when we came back down the 215, just before it hits I-15, we got that wonderful salt/ocean smell! Never realized just how strong it is. It let us know we were almost home.
ETA - Go for it Ed! You don't need permission, lol.

No worries, Ed, that's half the fun of it! The threads don't get derailed as easily as my thoughts, lol. (Your post count is down, ha! Okay, do what you gotta do!)
Ed, that's what my garage smells like - a machine shop! Lots of different machines cutting metal, grinding metal, welding metal. The shear and press brake are out back. I don't mind the smell so much, but I don't care too much for all the metal chips tracked into the house. Aluminum is one thing, but he's got a project right now cutting steel. Those steel slivers are sharp! I've got one in the bottom of my foot right now I need to dig out. Ouch.
You're welcome for the ocean breeze. At the point we smelled the ocean coming home on that trip, we were still miles away from the coast. But the breeze took the smell that far inland.
Break's over, back to vacuuming up those chips.

That's really really cool that you guys have a machine shop. I understand about the aroma and those chips are mean! Many time I went into work, early morning, lets just say not full rested, and getting inside of the door you knew you were at work! the sounds & smells. some morning were pretty rough. hard to keep tolerances in that condition My brother as a major cabinet making wood shop in his garage. So saw dust is big a problem to keep clean & out of the house. Wood shops have their own particular aromas....

This the stuff you were talking about James ? Beats hell out of that hot water bottle hanging from a hook near the toilet with the rubber hose and plastic thingie attached to it. (Yes, mom used that on me when I was a kid too). Beets and asparagus. Yuck !! Folks used to grow both and forced me to eat it. Hate the sight of it now. Hey Ed, chicken hearts are OK, but chicken livers are to die for. Jean, beef liver still shows up in our local store from time to time. Guess it's a country folks thing. Yes Don, or very similar. but you mentioned the most feared treatment.. NO !! NOT THE BAG !! RUN LIKE HELL !! Grandmom (Mema) used to torture(w/a sick grin) me with this thing Don. The tighter I squeezed the more it hurt(@ insertion). Along with an assortment of torture tips lol

Because by comparison, it makes them not smell so bad? I think they like to reek! They seek out fragrant things cats and other animals have left in the yard, just for them. A dog that just rolled in cat poo is pretty darn stinky!
