I started the tumbler in my garage tonight. It's supposed to go down to 10 degrees . But Jan was doing laundry all day (the dryer venting tube goes into the garage before going out the roof), our garage is only single car, and I have a hot little lortone motor running. Right now it's 50 degrees in there, we'll see what it looks like in the morning.
Hopefully, between tumbling motion, grit, borax, and a teaspoon or so of salt I won't have a chunk of ice come morning.

I have the same situation. The temp inside my garage has hovered around 36 degrees for the last week. I started my barrels back up a week ago Sunday and they seem to be doing great. I didn't use any additives to keep them from freezing - I think the friction of the rocks rolling in the barrels and the heat from the motor is enough to keep them thawed. You should be alright starting them up.

Yep, I think I'll be okay. It did get close to 10 outside, but the garage is still 40. My house must leak heat like a sieve.
