Found this on 7-7-07 near Seneca, Oregon, thanks to someone pushing rocks in a quarry. It was laying out in the open, broken as shown, fortunate to have "found" it. A paleontologist friend said very early ammonite, est. 135M yrs. old.

Pierre Shale here in South Dakota has loads of them. Gonna get across the river next spring and see if I can find some. Trick is finding land to hunt that isn't private.

Ahhhhhh... the sweet feeling of discovery! Nice to know how old it is too. I'm looking forward to my first. Have to do a little research.

This is just a little one from S.D.'s Pierre Shale. Prepped and sent to me by a friend who lives near a good dig site.

As said, ammonites are my favorite fossil..... My first ammonite(Scaphite) find-Montana...Had it cut.. Ammonite from Russia: Few of my ammonites found in Montana:(They are an average of 9 to 13 inches across on measurements) Ammonite (Scaphite) from France: Alot of people don't realize that you can cut fossils and get beauty out of the inner fossils like alot of rocks do... Here are a few that I had cut....

Russia has some beautiful ammonites that are coming out of that country now-here is one of the few I have from there...(Will get other pics soon-Photobucket is goofin' on me)... This is the flip side, its the one I was talkin' about with the "pyrite" incorporated into it.... It was cut to show the inner walls.........
