I have grown frustrated with the amount of time required (and my inability) to finish the flat backs of my cabochons. In order to eliminate flat backs, I have tried a few reversible double cabochons. Let’s hope the epoxy holds. I have intentionally not shown you the sides. Let’s say this was a learning experience. The side seams are not uniformly centered on the side face, and they are a little bit skewed. Next batch will get better. Any ideas on the “unknown” in Cab 4 and Cab 5? Please let me know. Darryl. Cab 1 – Side 1 – Sodalite (Princess Mine, Bancroft, Ontario) Cab 1 – Side 2 – Virginite (Baie Verte Peninsula, Newfoundland) Cab 2 – Side 1 – Sodalite Cab 2 – Side 2 – Virginite Cab 3 – Side 1 – Sodalite Cab 3 – Side 2 – Virginite Cab 4 – Side 1 – Virginite Cab 4 – Side 2 – Unknown Cab 5 – Side 1 – Virginite Cab 5 – Side 2 – Unknown

Really interesting idea you have...I think they look pretty good...If the side is an issue you might want to cut a groove and wrap it that way....John On the other issue about the backs of your cabs ..I finish mine in a vibe ....flawless shine all the way around....

That's a really neat idea! I share your concern about the epoxy holding. You could dome both sides of the cabs but that's double the work & doesn't give the reversable effect you have now. Perhaps there's some way to mount them that would add strength & prevent an adhesive failure.

I've never been able to get a good shine on the backs of cabs with my Genie. I think it's very difficult to get a perfectly flat surface on the backs hence a poor shine. I gave up on the Genie and do as John does,,,,,put the cabs in a vibe and they come out perfect every time! The other alternative is to set the cab in a bezel setting where no one will ever see the back of the cab! connrock
