rediculous. I hope the people who made the decision lose their jobs.

Aye God, this country is becoming a country of weak kneed whimps. I would not have made it through first grade under today's restrictions, We all had knives in our pockets. Got a brand new shiny one for Xmas every year. We played games with them on the school grounds. We all went hunting with our Red Riders after school every day and when we couldn't find sparrows to shoot up, we made forts and shot up each other. We were all obsessed by soldiers, cowboys, Indians and spacemen and it was a poor kid who didn't have a dozen or more toy guns ( remember shoot'em shell cap guns? They actually fired plastic projectiles and made a big bang). Remember the toy guided missile launchers that came in cereal boxes? We shot each other with those too. *L* We drew war drawings, guns, shoot'em ups, cowboy guns, machineguns, space guns etc in every drawing us guys drew. We built rubber band guns, shingle guns, carried around firecrackers etc and took them to school. Half the boys had toy guns in their Halloween costumes which we also wore to school and those that didn't have guns probably had swords. Only time I ever got in trouble was when I took off a week during the school year to go deer hunting, every year I might add.
I think all us kids turned out OK. Most became productive citizens and many served in the military. I can't think of any that were as fearful as today's teachers seem to be but I guess it is a different world as the gangs we had back then fought with the occasional knife or fists and parents actually tried to parent so most kids didn't join gangs. Sad that we now have a country so full of frady cats and wussies that kids have to be penalized for simply playing.....Mel
PS: What's next suspension for making paper airplanes? After all, they might depict a war plane.

Spit balls will be considered dangerous projectiles. Hell, we used to shoot paper clips at each other in class when the teacher wasn't looking. Real pens and pencils, and books that didn't have government propaganda in them, but instead taught real history. No computers to give you the answers. You actually had to study to pass a test.

...and books that didn't have government propaganda in them, but instead taught real history. I am of the firm belief that never happened. History was always written by the winners, who never put themselves in a bad light.

The Lees agree on this one. The recording of history will vary based on the view of the historian. Unfortunately some modern textbooks read more like the editorial page, rather than the hard news.
The purpose of education should be neither filling minds with facts or indoctrination, but teaching them to think for themselves, ie critical thinking. It is my fear that most of an entire generation has been managed, with drugs if necessary, to prevent them from becoming any more than another worker in the collective hive.
