Okay, I am guilty. I have finished about 5 tumbler loads in the past few months and haven't posted any. So here we go. I will start with the latest load finished. There are a LOT of pictures here, sorry if too many. But at least it is "rocks and stones" not "politics and animals", right? LOL
There was some discussion here this summer about how maybe some Montana agate comes from petrified wood? I definitely believe a significant portion is from petwood, maybe 10-15%. I have seen enough Montana figure in the petwood I have collected in Montana and Dakotas to convince me. So I recently put a load of this type petwood in the tumbler to see.
Here is an example of the rough I started with. It is nicely agatized petwood I collected. It all somewhat translucent and ranges from deep dark beer color to light clearer pieces
Here are pictures of the entire big load. Most is petwood, but I also threw a few agates and miscellaneous hard extra stuff in to fill it out. I left some of the wood with the bark texture and white sun-lacquer still on it. I like it that way, shows what it is.
Here are a couple of the neater wood specimens. The two in the middle may be palm, I can't quite tell.
Now some of the Montana agates from petwood:
Then I had a brief interruption in my outdoor photography and had to move location a bit because some neighbors decided to decimate our crab apple tree. These are not neighbors you can trifle with! Moose on the loose.
Resuming with the Montana/Petwood:
Now a few of the other stones that were mixed in:
A neat caramel colored piece of petwood that had a wormhole or limb hole
Another caramel piece:
Some with the tree's annual rings showing nicely:
A couple nice ones
One of my more favorite petwood pieces as it is partly clear and partly wonderfully detailed wood grain:
Finally a funny one where my camera got fooled into focusing on itself in the reflection
Sorry for so many pictures, but I am doing my part to keep peace between rockers and politicians here. I did slip one animal picture in. Sorry couldn't help myself
Thanks for looking. - Mark
