When I go collecting at Graves Mountain in Georgia, I always get the willies seeing folks digging in the walls of the main pit. I am careful even digging on slopes. I reckon folks have been very lucky at Graves. I know I don't push my luck ! Last thing I don't want to hear is rocks cracking and then get covered up.

yeah, I was at Lavic yesterday and could see overhangs where folks had dug in. Deep enough if it fell it'd bonk 'em on the head.

Yeah, buried under tons of rubble is not how I would care to end up. Something like that would pretty much put a damper on the fun for everybody. But if it should happen, I guess that would be the way to go. Just leave me there and walk away. Kinda like the guy in Florida whose house was swallowed by the sinkhole. They never found him...

A sad day indeed. It really sucks for his friend and his family. Being there when it happened to someone else would suck the worst.
But I am with Jean, if I am already buried why dig me up and waste the fuel to fry me. I don't even care if the buzzards manage to dig me up later. The Buddhists lay the bodies on a hill top and let the buzzards pick them clean. Then another animal eats the buzzard and on and on so it helps the planet. I am a pretty intense recycler.
I am very cautious especially in the spring when the melt and freezing and thawing have softened everything up. I haven't even seen a slide spot here other than in the gravel pits and I do not hound there if the wall is over three feet high. But again like Jean said, if you go when you are doing something you enjoy it is a hell of a lot better than laying in a bed for years. For me it would probably be better than laying in a bed for a month. Jim

Every time I have been to graves I was told never ever dig at or near the walls still I see idiots doing it. We had to yell at 3 last time I was there they had worked their way up the wall about 15 feet off the floor. George
