I need a direction to look... I have aquired a Lortone SA-6 arbor and finaly getting it setup. However, when I start the motor the arbor jumps and shakes violently. What would be the cause of this? New wheels have been put in. Could it be a bearing issue?

Bad Bearings, bad belt, or possibly loose motor tension apparatus is where I would start looking.

Take the belt off and check the arbor shaft for up/down and back/forth movement. Any play and likely you have worn bearings. Run the motor with belt off and see if motor runs smooth. Check belt for cracks. What kind of wheels? Some of the bargain Chinese wheels vibrate notoriously. If the bearings, motor and belt check OK remove the wheels and try it. If wheels are a little out you can sometimes rotate them a little at a time until they balance.

Either the motor needs to be tied down tight or wheels are out of round/balance. If you have silicon carbide grinding wheels, the vibration can be intense because they are so heavy. Rick

I think the motor mounts on the back of the unit on that model.

If the motor is on hinges and relies on gravity for tension, it will hop the whole rig up and down as the belt gets traction and then loses it when the motor gets pulled forward and the belt is loose. It has to have a bolt or something that keeps the motor from swinging up the hinge when the belt grabs the pulley.
I don't know what the setup on yours is, though. I have a dual expando wheel arbor setup that was given to me that the guy added a motor to, himself. He couldn't understand why the rig hopped so wildly and told me he thought the inner pulley or bearing were shot. In reality, those things were just fine and all I had to do was attach a very heavy spring between the "back" of the motor and the plank he'd bolted the hinge and arbor to and it solved the problem. I would have made a bracket for a bolt/nut but wanted to be able to swing the motor a little bit by hand in case I wanted speed or slow the rpms by swapping which of the two inner pulleys the belt seated into. Thanks for all the tips! Turns out the expanding drum was off balance because the insert wasn't tight. I am up and running now.
