Susan, Yup Lowell pretty much covered it. The Basin Road gravels I walked were those from just north of the RR tracks to a mile or more up the canyon but there are more beds further back up the canyon towards Afton campground. Most the times I've been there recently, there was way too much sand on the gravel but if you catch it after a good flood, man it's a whole new ball game.
Now you know, me being basically cruel *L*, I'll have to go out and take pics of more of my Lavic and Basin road stuff just to torture you some more *W*.....Mel

Lol Mel! Thanks Elementary for the info too. Scott, yes, I have 4wd, but need a partner. Larry is disinclined at the moment, so if you want to go one day, let me know. I can only go on weekends though.

PM me, maybe we can rip out there right after new years. We can meet a Peggy Sue's o'dark thirty, head in, get some rocks do some hiking...
FWIW, it is 15 miles (almost exactly) from the Basin Rd exit to the parking spot for the fluorite mine. Takes about an hour to get there once off the freeway.
