Continuing to progress toward my first finished batch...
The rocks are now in tripoli. I pulled one out after 4 days and it retains a shine when dry! I'd quit now and move to polish, but I just can't make the time during the week.
So Saturday I'll pull the batch and move to the last step. It will be colder than a witch's +itty nipple - 35 degrees, but there is no way I'm not moving this batch to the next phase.
No pics. You all will just have to wait for the finished product. I also saved rocks from each stage to show progression.
To be continued...

Actually - impatience. If I hadn't spent all my money on rocks, I could have saved up to buy the equipment I needed much earlier. Plus shutting down for two winters didn't help any.

Cover your eyes again Daniel......... We had 80 degree weather last week, we are in the mid 20s at night and will be mid teens next 2 nights. Area all around me is wineries, they expect to lose 80% of their crop the next 2 nights. They are doing everything they can. the grape fields look like little tents everywhere........very sad for Missouri wineries.
I am agreeing that Toad is either very very patient or has a commitment problem!

Toad - Weren't you running a rotary? Isn't this just your 1st vibe batch?

No commitment problem here. I ran the rotary non-stop last year until it got too cold. But my plan was always to only run rough grind in the rotary. All other steps were going to be completed in the vibe. I didn't get the vibe until this Christmas. So now I'm plowing thru everything that I did last year.
Another problem I have is that I have very high standards as to what is done in rough grind - any pit, crack that catches the fingernail, or area that might hold grit gets thrown back in. So my production will not be as high as most. Just a personal preference, I've seen pictures of finished batches on this site that showed large pits and or cracks and they still got a good polish. To each their own.

I'm with you on the "done" issue. It is one of the main reasons I got the 120g wheel, and that I have such a big bucket of pre-ground waiting for touch-up before going through the higher stages. I figure it is the difference between horticulture and agriculture - bothe are important and to each his own - or some of each to each. Whatever.
