I was looking at the Covington kits at one point but I think I can get a nice used saw at a lower cost than the price of the kit.

Here is a used covington kit scroll down the page. It doesn't have bookend style vise though however I think you can buy a new one from covington that will fit on it. At $350 this appears the way to go: cigarboxrock.com/as_is_machines.htm

I don't like the crank handles. I think I would rather buy one of yours.

The only thing I like about the Covington kits is they use a worm drive feed that stops if your blade stops. For $2 grand I would save my pennies a little longer and get this... sphereproducts.com/lapidarysaw.htm
