Just hatched a batch o'rocks, mostly from northern Colorado and the Moab area. If you were wandering around the Pawnee grasslands and putting rocks in your pack, this is what they might look like after you tumble them. Mixed success on the jasper but the agate turned out nice. I also put some quartz and quartzite in and they turned out more or less. These were found in the Moab area, at sites described in "Gem Trails of Utah". Some trim pieces from other nicer chunks of this I've been working on... Save that for another thread... As pitted and cracked as this is, it's still some of the nicer bits from this lot I've tried to tumble. Utah Agate close up: Another Utah Agate: and some northern CO agate close up:

Fine shine there. The Colorado has cool little dendrites. Gotta like any stone of such quality. Colors are great.

Hi Tim. I have all the Utah varieties you have pictured and really enjoy my trips to the Yellowcat/Poison Strip area north of Arches each spring. Amazing variety in there. Yours came out quite nice. I have a batch of Utah stuff just started today. Do you mind me asking where the moss agate is in the Pawnee Grasslands? I am in the Denver metro area and mostly hunt south of here, but have found Fairburne style agates north of Ft. Morgan. No moss though. Don

Thanks for the nice comments :-) The CO agate was found on the west side of the Pawnee. My strategy is to find the hills and walk along the sides and top of them, pretty much anywhere you can see rocks from the road is a good place to look. The valleys in between hills are pretty filled in with dirt and you don't find as much there. The moss stuff looks a lot like material I've seen that was collected north of me in Wyoming. The Utah stuff was indeed found in the Poison strip area mostly. Nice variety but pretty fractured.

That's a really nice batch with a great shine. I really like the moss, wish we had stuff like that here in Illinois. There is a sky blue piece in the first photo, third rock to the left of the quarter, which I really like the color of. Any idea what it is?

The blue piece is.. Jasper? It's hard and took a nice shine. I really don't know what it is but it's hard like jasper and has a similar texture like the brown and tan bits I've been finding.
