So, I got my torch and foredom along with various other tools and I was able to finish a project with some success. 20mm labradorite- It is much nicer than these photos suggest- the piece and the stone. Ignore the fingerprints. I'm quite proud of this esp the 20g wire I soldered onto the front. I haven't made up my mind abt the LOS, yet. I'll have better pictures at some point. The silver looks so garish in this light. The back has a satin finish, but it sure looks like crap in the picture. Anyways... here it is, my first successful piece after lots of learning mistakes. (The soldered wire is covering one of them LOL!)

Nice silversmithing you did. It's great to be able to cover your tracks which makes for a perfect day at the bench. Keep it up.
About the photo's believe me it's hard to get a good photo of silver. It can be as shiny as a reflection in a mirror and still look as dull as if you didn't polish it. Keep at it you will get better.

Great look to it. As someone who does not do this kind of work, I think there is nothing showing that would remind me of this being a first.
Keep them coming.

Fantastic job, that came out really nice. Silver can be quite a pain to get a good photo of. It took me a long time and a lot of experimenting to get it right.

I think you had a lot more then "some success"!I think you had a whole bunch of it! It's a beautiful piece and you should be VERY proud of what you've accomplished in such a short time! connrock

THANK YOU!!! I couldn't have done it without some help from you guys. I have discovered that I really enjoy this kind of work. Thankfully, since I sunk so much into tools and supplies. LOL! I'm waiting on some copper bezel to finish some more pieces.

That's real nice. Bet it gets easier as you do more. Great arrangement. And it has your style made into it.
Best to have a style and be different in most cases. You did it there.

Tela, congrats to you! That is one beautiful piece of work that you created, the stone is nice and the silverwork is really quite good for your first presentation piece. Actually I am quite jealous:). Seriously that is really nice. With todays hi res cameras even perfectly polished silver has scratches showing, its the camera's job just to tee you off:)

Thanks for the great responses! I spent today working on a copper piece and another silver. Both are half done. Guess what I did? I left a piece of silver solder sitting on my block with my copper solder. Yes, I picked a silver piece up and put it on my copper piece. Guess that one is getting LOS. It will help. I did try to float some copper over the silver with a little success.

I know how bad that is.........I even know how bad it is to pick up a sliver of silver thinking it's a piece of solder.....I ain't going there....LOL 39don
