As most of you know ---last week Rainey put a cab on ebay and I was lucky enough ( or rich enough) to hold on and win it ! --- This is the story of it's "survival" to illinois ----- Gaetz said he would fill a frb to go with it --- well, it got here today and as you can see the box went thu some of the storms that's in the midwest this week --- tornados' , wind , and prob dropped out of a plane from 30,000 ft --- they were really trying to destroy this one !! ( or else they knew that "cab" was in there ) someone did manage to get it to the "box" hospital and get it taped up tho! ;D--- before they all fell out ! after cutting all the tape I was scared of what I'd find inside --- would it even still be in there ?? --- or would that be the one that went " missing" !!------- as I looked thu the rocks I saw something that looked a little different --- here was a small ring box , somewhat tattered! and upon opening it , parts were falling out --- this box was almost destroyed too. but there was a little bundle of cotton and inside it was the prettiest "bots cab" !! without a scratch on it !!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D!! Thanks Rainey, and Gaetz, and I think you said Stoner cut it!! so thanks Stoner, too!---------- Snowdog

Wow, you are a lucky snowdog there Dave. I remember cutting that cab. Tim sent me the polished stone and it sat here by the computer for a couple of weeks because it had such a great shine on it I couldn't bring myself to ruin it. But I finally took the plunge and ground away about half it's height, shaped it a little and then domed it. I was just glad it polished up the way it was when I got it. Congrats on the win.

Lucky? I'll say! I was bidding on that beauty myself but got pulled away & missed the close of the auction. It's okay though as I've got rainey saved as a favorite seller now! I'm ready for the next one! Last

David-
That is an unbelievable story. I'm totally shocked w/ the condition of the box and even more amazed that you got the "innards". While taping this Flat Rater up, Rainey kept wondering why we put so much tape on it. I kept putting more and more tape to ensure it's safe arrival in Illinois but it looks like I didn't put on enough.
So the ring box was destroyed too huh?
Well, I think you did a great job documenting this little guys arduous journey "home". Now I must ask, what are you going to do w/ the cab? Are you a wrapper?
Thanks again for the great bid, wonderful pics, and great story.
Gaeter

Looking at tha box, you'd never think a rock like that would survive. I guess using rocks as packing material does work.
Two observations: 1.Gaetz wins the "how much can you stuff in a FRB" contest. 2. What gets my attention is the blueish rock behind the ring box. Steve

One lucky snowdog!! Happy for all of you that the cab made it through the "storms"! I got a box from Steve Holmes a while back and it looked about the same.It went to the Post Office ER for stich n patch job too! I find that the FRB's are not made for shipping a full box of rocks without a little help especially in the corners. Even if while constructing the box itself you tape it perfectly you can still see daylight in the corners and that's where most of the trouble starts. Last year I paid for a full box of small agates that took a short cut through Main Street Baghdad!! There were 3 agates left rolling around inside the "bandaged" box!! Lucky? ? Yoy're a LOT more then that!!! connrock

the Post Office personnel are on to us. they secretly hate us rockhounders and mess with our FRB's every chance they get. my rule: no such thing as too much tape.

The kick of the whole FRB thing is that the PO DESIGNED (well more hard earned tax dollars gone to waste here) the FRB to hold UP TO 70 Lbs!!!!! Now I have gotten some heavy FRB but the most I've seen was around 30 Lbs- I can't imagine what a 70 Lber would look like!
