I'm planning to put together a couple of bags of tumbling grade Olympic Poppy Jasper, and I'd like to know what size stones make up a good mix. I was thinking of ranging from 1.5" down to .5", but that's just my best guess. Thanks in advance! Joshua

I'm sure everyone has their own preference but I usually grade my tumbles 1/2" to 2" depending on shapes. I try to avoid big 2" blocky ones and favor pieces that are somewhat flater if I can get them. I also like a high percentage of smalls for best results but add smalls of another types if I don't get enough from the one type mix. I find my poppy jaspers grind fairly quickly, as compared to hard agate, so the larger sizes usually grind fairly well into smaller, more rounded, useful shapes....Me

Best to err on the side of too large. I once hammered a couple dozen pounds of sodalite down to 1" and that makes for a pretty small tumbled stone. All depends on the intended final use, I guess.

I agree, one can always make their own smalls if necessary.
