This is my second post on short-wave fluorescent minerals from the Princess Pat Mine in the Mojave Desert, north of Adelanto, California. I recently purchased a MFRB of this material from rockncajun who is downsizing his collection. These rocks aren’t very pretty on the shelf, but rapidly become amazing in the dark under short-wave fluorescent light. The reason for the various colours is that different minerals are emitting different wavelengths (colours) of light when they become “excited “ by the energy from the fluorescent light. In fact, different minerals can be detected in a specimen based on the colours they emit. Common short-wave fluorescent colours from this location are … Mineral - SW Fluorescent Colour Calcite - deep red Caliche - bright light orange to yellow-orange Hyalite - bright green to yellowish-green Powellite - light creamy yellow Scheelite - bright bluish-white to cream-white Secondary carbonates/silicate - rich forest green Darryl.

Great looking rocks. When I saw the first two pictures under the fluorescent lighting the first thing that came to mind was " ROCK STARS". Very cool !!

Darryl, that is some great photography! I was there when Ray collected those. The place is sorta mind boggling at night. An outstanding image of what I was calling "Starry Night Scheelite".

Shotgunner:
I am SO envious of you collecting at the Princess Pat with rockncajun. This is the kind of place you dream about. A visit is on my bucket list. I simply need a near death experience to get me working on the list.
I have seen a few blogs on the "collecting at night" experience and watching the desert floor light up beneath your feet under your lights. As you said ... mind boggling!
I will soon post a few photography "Tips and Tricks" in an effort to get a few more people hooked an what has become a new obsession for me.
Darryl.
