Have a chunk of corundum (ruby) that I tumbled several years ago. Never thought much about it other than when I was showing people and told them I had a ruby. They were never all that impressed - it's a pretty muddy red. But today I was looking at it in a different light (brighter) and noticed it had a 4-pointed star! Totally excited. I'll see what I can do to get a pic, but I have a hard time just getting the stone in focus, much less the star - it's the size of a large raisin or small grape...

starguy has a current post on star garnets that show some real nice examples of asterism. Chances are, the techniques of finding the star on garnets is similar for rubies.
I've heard of star sapphires which are basically blue aluminium oxide. A star ruby would also makes sense. It's basically red aluminium oxide.
Chances are, your ruby will also fluoresce deep to bright red under UV light. The amazement is never ending.
