I would fly to Utah, and work my way back through Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota. But I'd want a whole lot more than 4 or 5 driving days. Too many prime collecting spots along the way, and many hours of driving between them.

Well, I don't believe I'd go to Denali in March. Actually, I've been there in August and wouldn't bother with it again, because then the silvers are running in the Big Su. Is the South Rim of the Grand Canyon open then? I know the North rim isn't and that would be my preference. Yallerstone is something everyone should see at least once in their life but March isn't the time for that, either. (I live an hour away, and right now it's snowing and blowing. At 1:00 this afternoon it was 60F.) Are you collecting rocks or just seeing the country? If the latter I'd fly to Phoenix, rent a car and drive to SLC and fly home. Hit the South Rim on the way north, up through Page, back west to Cedar City, either the I-15 corridor to SLC or through the mountains depending on the weather. Gives you a little time to poke around in off the main road stuff, but not a lot. Mid-May opens up a whole 'nother world of options.

Hawaii exploring Vulcanos. Driving between the beaches. No stones though, except perhaps diving for coral.

I would fly to Washington State and/or Oregon mainly because I will probably never drive that far.

Being centrally located for the most part, I don't just think about it, I do it. I earn enough vacation to be able to go on 2 3 week vacations every year. I save up money and go whereever I want. I won't be able to do this forever, but for now I do it. I will get old eventually and have to slow down. then I can concentrate on other things.

Hey, I just got back from that Arizona thing so if you wanted to go to Phoenix and backtrack a little we could go to the "pet wood forest " then try the south rim of grand ( glass over walk)and on over to Vegas ------------------------ that's where the trip would end and we would have to walk home from there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111 (after we got out of jail )
