Hi all, newbie from the UK. I keep seeing the phrase Thunder Eggs, is this just an American term and if so are they what I know as geodes. Cheers, and great to find this helpful site/message board.

Thunder eggs are a lava belch. Essentially they are loose bits of lava that are strewn about on certain lava fields. Rather than being magma, they are essentially mud. The centers through time fills with colloidal mass resulting in very beautiful stones. One writer on the forum wanted to know if they polish well. Most people cab polish or use 1/2 cuts and polish. They are georgeous and each is unique. If you can, get some, cut and polish. You will like. Doc

Go on the internet, and do search for thunder eggs. They are a northwest speciality and will have to be shipped. They are worth it however. Doc

thanks again for the info, found a couple of sources willing to ship, takes 4-6 weeks though, I wonder if the eggs will be ready inside in that time! Can't wait to see what I get. Cheers p.s. do you guess hand polish these (insides) or do you machine them?
