I have a MK 101 Tile saw. I need to lower the blade a little and the thing is stuck. I have been using wd-40 and 3in1 oil to try and loosen it up. We used a hydraulic jack and got it to move up and now it's stuck again and I can't use it at all. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to loosen it?
Thanks, Andrea

Sounds like it's stuck on the pivot bolt mounting... rock dust and silt and aluminum sometimes don't mix well. Remove the big height adjustment knob completely and spray between side housing where knob sits and main saw frame.. spray the bolt/big pin the saw plate rotates on (on the back side of motor/blade housing) and use something besides WD40 or 3n1. Use a penetrating oil and keep it away from the drive belt/pullys. Move higher or lower in small steps. Let the penetrating spray work for several minutes...go slow with it. I wouldn't use a jack...that's overkill and can bend or tweak the frames!!

The WD40 says it's penetrating. I will try to find something else. A guy at a rock shop told me to use a jack to break it free. It moved up a little but I need it to go down….actually I need it to come off completely so I can move the whole saw forward. The saw is about 12-14 years old and was only used for tile and never needed to be adjusted….so it is frozen. Any other ideas appreciated.
Thanks, Andrea

I've had better results with PB Blaster for breaking frozen hardware free than WD40. One can find it at automotive and most hardware stores.

The WD in WD40 stands for water displacing...actually the 40 is the 40th formula...It's not worth a dang as a lube. It dries fast but lubes little. I'm with jerrys .. Blaster works. I have one can in the house..one in the truck...one in my shop. Sounds like maybe when ya get the blade frame freed up you need to go thru every nut and bolt and free them up too. WD 40 is good for removing water from spark plugs/wires/and distributor cap though. There are other brands that will work though.. about any one that is oil based and penetrates...big name brands..generic/house brand only maybe. Spray on..tap lightly with a hammer on the froze-up part...let set for 15 minutes.. spray again..tap..and wait 15 minutes...then spray again and try to work it up/down and get it freed up.

You used a jack on your saw and now the saw is stuck is there room to get a crobar in there anywhere you can pull down on

I will have to have my husband try the crowbar….nothing I do works. I don't think it was bent when using the jack but anything is possible. I probably shouldn't have had him use the jack, I might have been able to hammer it down the quarter/half an inch I needed but the guy at the rock shop said to use the jack. I thought once it broke free it would be all better.

At the back of the saw/motor part where it "pivots"...is there a bolt or nut holding the frame to the saw/motor part? If so... loosen it with a wrench or socket.. I just had a terrible thought that lifting it with the jack tightened the bolt or nut up WAY past snug... I am not familiar with the saw but it probably is held on with a nut/bolt which went tight (rotated to the tight direction) when the jack was used.. Might want to look at that..

I saw that in the online manual. My saw doesn't seem to have the cutting head stop. There is a place for a screw but the frame doesn't have that angled part for the piece to fit in. The saw is probably 14 years old so maybe there have been some changes in the newer models. There is nothing there so it's probably missing.

No…I keep spraying it. We have a ratchet strap attached to it and tightened up but not sure if it's working.

Time and keep spraying..tapping lightly! a bit with something like that ratchet strap should work...in time.. give it time. Brute force will probably bend the frame(s).

Have you tried just sliding the saw head off the shaft without raising or lowering? The process outlined in the manual seems to include this and the drawing seems to maybe show it as splined.

I was thinking about that yesterday and started tapping in that direction. I will have to look at the manual to see what you are referencing. There is a screw that holds the post and we were thinking about taking it off that way and then hammering the post like a nail.

Be careful not to mushroom the end of the post by hammering it.

Good news. The ratchet strap worked. My husband ratcheted it a couple of times and there were a few loud clunks and the blade is now stuck in a useable position. So I cut several slabs before it got dark and I am happy again. Lol.
