Ok heres the story with these, Dad just gave them to me around December.....He purchased them from ebay...Ill post the platinum ones first then the gold ones...I guess my question is what do yall think, bought from ebay I guess it could go either way as if the seller was being honest.....One of the gold ores when I first got my tumbler I put one in, and it seemed to disappear(I thought it'd tumble), I did notice what seemed to be fine gold floating in the slurry which makes sense....fine gold will and does float, but I was a newbie at tumbling, not panning....and ive never done it but trying to pan fine gold out of tumbling slurry would be a night mare I think, I am however considering just crushing one of the gold ores in one of my pans and panning it with clean water to see what I get that way, wont be tumbling any of these anymore, the platinum ore just by feeling it with my hand seems to be a much harder rock, the gold ore I could probally crush with a hammer with not much effort.......question is what do yall think of the material,
The platinum ore
More platinum ore this is obviously different looking, it reminds me more of my emerald and matrix rough, but just what I was told
Ok now for the gold ore

interesting rock never seen platinum
I suppose gold would float in the slurry but I always thought it was a heavier element specific gravity wise
is the host rock that gold is in quartz?

yes your completely right about it being a heavier element that's why its so easy to pan gold but when it comes down to very fine gold, it can float, think of putting shredded pieces of gold leaf in a pan of water, itd float but doesn't mean no gold in it...a secret to capturing the very fine gold in a pan is putting dish washing soap in and its still very hard to get all of it out, its supposed to cut the surface tension and cause it to sink, nuggets and flakes are very easy to contain in a pan but not fine gold..its hard to get every speck

the gold ore I have? or shall I say is supposed to be gold ore? no I don't believe its quartz it seems to be a lighter more brittle sandy stone......I do believe the top what is supposed to be platinum ore is quartz, the other two platinum ores are a greenish clear and purplish rock with hints of red...im not sure to be honest

yeah it hard to tell by a picture
you could take a needle and try poking the gold if it depresses and is soft its gold-- most likely
pyrite, of course, is brittle and will flake off
thanks for the info on gold flake floats I have never panned gold
I only knew of, one other person, who tried panning gold, from the slurry out of his saw he claimed a certain amount of success
keep on
