I am brand new to the forum. I still need to add an official introduction, but I had two awesome trips the last two weeks and wanted to share some pics The first one my friend (username delo) and I headed down near the San Rafael Swell in Utah. We also included a short side trip to the Poison Strip/Yellow Cat area. The petrified wood was harder to come by than we thought, but we did find lots of small pieces. The jasper and agate in the area have some super vibrant reds (also yellows, whites, blacks, and purples) and sometimes some good banding We found a whole crop of these jasper/agate filled mudball geodes. They can be filled calcite, quartz, and even amethyst crystals The grape agate there comes in all shapes, colors, and sizes There was even some fossilized coral Although we brought back buckets of stuff I did want to include some of my faves Sorry, I am totally going to take a class in photographing rocks and minerals for the future, but all in all it was loads of fun. Thank you all for looking. I am already totally addicted to this forum so keep it coming!

Hi mateoj and welcome to the forum! The "grape agate" and "mud-balls" you found are petrified stromatolites. The SWELL offers them in dramatic red, yellow, purple, and sometimes filled with celestite crystals. Thanks for sharing!

1dave Thank you for clarifying! I was curious if they had a name. Also I was wondering if you could confirm whether or not the specimen in the top left in the second to last picture was an agate pseudomorph after barite.

Looks like that was a productive trip. Great finds and yeah, we like pictures. Another area I need to get to. Darn, my list of places to go is getting long.

That is an enviable stash of a fantastic variety of collection-worthy material, those reds are so vivid! I find some red japers in my locale, but they tend to be fairly fractured and not as vibrant. Color me jealous!

You bet! kkI'm going to try this whole posting images in a comment thing. I hope it works ha ha ha. Sorry about the low quality (taken with a cell phone) Here is a nice pic of the swell itself. The formations are amazing The ground is seriously littered with material All you need is a shovel! They grow right out of the shale

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for the show. Looks like you had a pretty good trip, certainly in the sense of result. Like the mud ball and red color especially.
