Stopped by the local rock shop to check their rough chunks bin and escaped with only spending $10- scored what I think is Poppy Jasper & a nice chunk of ?? jasper/agate that I took a couple of small cuts from - any help on an ID for it would be very much appreciated - also got another nice chunk of red/pink leopardskin jasper I'll get pics of tomorrow. Gene Possible poppy jasper? if not what do you think it is: Here is the very colorful agate/jasper (need help with ID on this please) - I've only gotten through 5 vol of the agate-jasper index looking so far. The chunk after the slab small slab opposite end closeups of the face cut

Very nice! The top one is a real nice jasper I would say, but doesn't look like a poppy to me. The bottom is beautiful rhyolite.

I'd agree on the second one being rhyolite. Wonderstone is a common name for this rock, and it's found in Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and I think California....
The first one looks kind of like a california poppy jasper, Stoney Creek maybe?

Sounds like a pretty unanimous vote for Wonderstone then, I'll try and research the jasper more. Thanks again for the help!!

Wow, excellent wonderstone! I especially like the second one with all the tight swirls. The jasper does look like some form of poppy. Often the "flower" formations in poppy jasper are diffuse or distorted to the point where they appear to be snowflakes or blotches rather than well defined orbs. See it a lot in the various Hornitos and Morgan Hill poppy jasper types.....Mel
