Wow pretty, colorful and highly variable patterns. Can't complain about that. As a poppy jasper freak, I love it. Thanks for the pics...Mel

Wow, very cool. I'm down at Panoche/Tumey a couple of times a year and had no idea you could find anything like that.

I would keep that site under cap.

I would keep that site under cap. This is area 54, where Little Panoche Creek has dumped the Panoche Hills into a vast collection site. It's BLM land situated between almond orchards, easy to get to, but a map would help to see which dirt road to turn onto. Easy google search. I've seen others collect some unreal specimens from area54, many varieties of poppy jasper. Our rockhound group will be there oct 18.

Are those rockhound trips pretty much every month? I won't be able to make the October one but might be able to sync up sometime this winter.

November is Mojave Desert rockhounding, and though not scheduled yet, probably end of Dec for A54. Of course it's always open If you live in the area why not join the group? Rockhoundfieldtrips.

I live about two hours to the north but go down to the BLM land in that region now and again to target shoot (typically tumey hills more precisely). I found some of the maps and such online so I'll probably end up poking around a bit and seeing what I can find. I made a note to go check out Rockhoundfieldtrips though.
